Denys BaptisteSax tenoreBorn in London of St Lucian parents in 1969, Denys studied music at school from the age of 13 and, in 1990, went on to study at the West London Institute (Brunel University). In 1992, he continued his music education at London’s Guildhall School of Music, studying under former Jazz Messenger, Jean Toussaint.
From the moment he joined the London jazz circuit, Denys displayed extraordinary talent, energy and commitment. Spotted by veteran Jazz Warriors double bassist, Gary Crosby at the bassist’s regular Tomorrow’s Warriors jam sessions, Denys was immediately invited to join Crosby’s new band, Nu Troop. Since then, Denys has soared in his development as a soloist and bandleader, earning enormous respect from his peers.
His colossal talent – based on a powerful technique and an ability to improvise fluently and effortlessly across a wide range of musical styles – is matched only by his unfettered energy which takes him and his audiences into the musical stratosphere. An evening with Denys guarantees a display of unsuppressed expression, ranging from sweet “saxuality” to breathtaking, edge-of-your-seat virtuosity. Over the years, Denys has evolved into what the Time Magazine describes as “the icon of British jazz”, with a most distinctive and immediately recognisable sound.
A much sought after soloist, Denys has played/recorded with some of the biggest names in jazz and other genres including McCoy Tyner, Andrew Hill, Ernest Ranglin, Bheki Mseleku, Marvin “Smitty” Smith, Michael Bowie, Courtney Pine, Manu Dibango, Gary Crosby, Steve Williamson, Julian Joseph, Jason Rebello, Martin Taylor, Lonnie Plaxico, Ralph Moore, Billy Higgins, Jerry Dammers, Sean Oliver, Jean Carne, Marlena Shaw, Noel McCoy, Juliet Roberts, Incognito, Jazz Jamaica, and others of distinction.
Denys is an amazingly versatile musician and, although his roots are steeped in the jazz tradition, he incorporates ideas from other musical forms and popular culture, producing a repertoire which is contemporary, multi-layered and highly accessible. He is also an enormously talented composer/arranger, whose brilliant compositions have already earned him immense critical acclaim.

Andrew McCormackPianoBritish pianist/composer Andrew McCormack has built a diverse international career with many appearances at major festivals and concert halls all over the globe. At one of his solo performances at Jazz In The Round’s Cockpit Theatre in London, McCormack commented, “I have a good reputation for collaborating with other artists. To play solo, I had to learn how to collaborate with myself!”.
Since then, the pianist has enjoyed a series of performances in the solo format, most notably at the internationally renowned Bimhuis in Amsterdam. As a bonus for McCormack’s admirers, Mezzo HD filmed the performance for broadcast throughout Europe.
In early 2016, McCormack embarked on a short tour of selected venues across the UK in a rare outing to play solo piano, to considerable critical acclaim most notably at a sold out Hall One Kings Place in London opening for Michael Wollny in 2017.
He is perhaps best known internationally as a long term member of the Kyle Eastwood Band but also has numerous projects under his own name including trio, duo with Saxophonist Jason Yarde and the pianists’ progressive jazz project, Graviton as well as having received commissions for classical orchestral and chamber concerts.
In 2020, he released SOLO to across the board 4/5 star reviews, adding yet another strength to his already diverse portfolio.
Using a mixture of originals, standard and not so standard repertoire, the pianist demonstrates his compelling ideas, composing and thrilling performances in the stripped down intimate setting of solo piano. -

MOBO nominated musician Rod Youngs has established himself as one of the most expressive and versatile drummers on the contemporary music scene. For over two decades Youngs’ approach to music has been all embracing covering a wide spectrum of genres but remaining firmly rooted in the the jazz tradition.
A native of Washington D.C. Youngs’ developed an interest and appreciation for music at an early age. This interest gradually grew into a passion that eventually led to his studies at Howard University where he received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Applied Percussion. He later continued his studies at the Eastman School of Music in Rochester, N.Y. under the tutelage of Keith Copeland. Since those formative years Rod’s consummate musicianship has garnered him a wide variety of work from concerts and recordings to sessions for radio, TV and film. He has performed/recorded with a formidable array of artists including, Lee Konitz, Bennie Maupin, Jon Hendricks, Gil Scott-Heron, Chico Freeman, Hugh Masekela, Gary Crosby, Natalie Cole, Mica Paris, Denys Baptiste, Abdullah Ibrahim, BBC Concert Orchestra, Julian Joseph, Nu Civilisation Orchestra, Courtney Pine, Ronnie Laws, Jazz Jamaica All Stars, and David Murray amongst others.
In addition to performing, Rod is actively involved in music education. He has served as an instructor on the Glamorgan University jazz course and has conducted performance workshops for South Hampton University, Tomorrow’s Warrior’s Organization, Serious International Music Producers and The Round House. He currently provides private instruction for students of all levels and ages and serves as a guest artist at the Planet Drum School and the Julian Joseph Jazz Academy.
